Apply to import firearms or firearms-related articles into Australia

The Firearms portal is currently being re-developed. The upgraded portal is planned to go live towards the end of the year. The portal will be temporarily unavailable for a short period of time while this uplift is finalised. Once the portal goes live, this site will no longer be available to submit import applications. A new URL will be available when this occurs.

The Attorney-General's Department administers the granting of permission to import certain types of firearms and firearm related articles under the regulatory scheme set out in the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 (the Regulations).

The importation of firearms and firearm-related articles (including accessories, parts, magazines, ammunition, components of ammunition and imitation firearms) is controlled under the Regulations. Articles must meet import test, serial number and safety testing requirements.

There is no fee for making this application.

You must complete this form in one session—it cannot be saved and returned to at a later time. Once you begin your session you will have 24 hours to complete the form, or your information will be lost.

If you have any questions about your application, please contact the Firearms Team at firearms.enquiries@ag.gov.au.
If you are unsure which tests apply to the articles you wish to import, proceed to the
provisional classification section.
